Recap: Kind Country at Martyrs 5/9
Music isn’t the only thing that evokes emotion at a Kind Country show. It’s where a mother and daughter unite and dance together for the first time in 11 months. It’s where a 51 year old woman rejoices in her recent purchase of a mail truck for a tiny home conversion and with a laugh asks, “Am I crazy?” It’s where the band announces the excitement of the bassist, Joe Sheehan’s, recent engagement. It’s where peace and relaxation is offered through massage to the sound of string instruments.
The Growlers set the mood for Kind Country to take the stage on Thursday, May 9 at Martyrs in Chicago. This was the 7-man-band’s third time performing in the Windy CIty. The Minnesota based group performed old favorites, tracks off recent album “Harder Times” and even a cover of “Superstition” lead by drummer, Chris Wittrock. The best part? Watching the band have fun switching instruments around during the show, showcasing the multi-talented members.
After the Chicago show, Kind Country hit the road to Iowa City to wrap up the first half of the Spring Tour. Last weekend, they performed at Revival Music Festival and can be found next at Bonfile Music and Arts Festival in Hillsboro, WI on June 6. Here’s some shots from the Chicago show!
