HoSno Artist Feature: Megan Hamilton

If you know Megan Hamilton then you know what a creative force this woman is. From creating album art, to conjuring up funky house beats to bop to, she can do it all. This was her second appearance at the mid-winter festival, Hotel Minnesnowta 2020, and holy smokes does she know how to throw a party!  There wasn’t a single soul standing still at the Regency Stage, nothing but grooves and slick moves on a crowded dance floor.

When asked what brings her back to Hotel Minnesnowta, Hamilton explained, “Mark is always so accommodating and just such a genuine person in general, I always love working with MJG.”

MJG Productions is a booking, management and promotional agency based out of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, which curated Hotel Minnesnowta. Other headliners of the event included Useful Jenkins, Cas Haley, Julian Davis and more.

Hamilton could be spotted mingling with the crowd before her sound check. That’s one of the many great aspects of this event, it’s so personal, no one is a stranger, at least not for very long. She seemed confident about her set and everybody was extremely ready for the dance party. The entire room was buzzing with electricity.

New Decade, New Megan

Hamilton has some seriously exciting plans for the 2020 festival season, beginning with the 13th annual Gem & Jam Festival held January 31-February 2 in Tucson, Arizona. She will be playing among other artists including Manic Focus, Late night Radio and The Floozies just to name a few.  She’s got plenty of other surprises that we can’t go into too much detail about just yet so, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for big things coming! Hamilton got so giddy when she told about all the music she’s been working on.

“I’m really looking forward to all the music I’ve currently got in the pipeline. Planning to drop something at least once a month in 2020 — stoked!” Hamilton said.

With the year just getting started, stoked is an understatement. She has plenty of other surprises, which we can’t go into too much detail about, just yet. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for big things coming! With great news, comes great anticipation.

When she’s not on stage …

Hamilton  is a serious foodie. Naturally, we had to talk about all the great food we’ve come across recently. You can follow her most impressive food escapades on instagram, @thefunkyfoodie, you will be amazed at the masterpieces on there. From exuberant mussel seafood dishes, to extravagant grilled cheese sandwiches, there’s something for everyone to lust over.

“Food is the best thing ever, I genuinely believe that nothing brings people together like music and food. They’re both universal languages and that’s why I love sharing them with people.”  Hamilton said.

It’s absolutely true, whether it’s at the dinner table or the dancefloor, we all come together for the love of the art and the way it makes us feel.

So, I asked for her two favorite Minneapolis spots that I could experience greatness for myself. “It’s tough to narrow it down to two places in Minneapolis, so I’ll just name a few: Centro, Stanley’s, Chimborazo, The Mill, Masu and Lake & Irving.”

I have some work to do and some new food to try.

New Releases

Her latest bop, “Leave No Trace,” with the ever-so-talented Sparkee, was released December 13. The house, funk hybrid track is guaranteed to get the listeners shoulders shimmying and hitting riffs on their air guitars.

“I loved creating ‘Leave No Trace’ with Jesse, the workflow was super fast and we were both very much on the same wavelength,” Hamilton said. “So, it didn’t take much back and forth for us to create something we were both happy with. I think it really exemplifies both of our styles well, without causing any dissonance in the overall vibe of the track. Plus he’s an incredible guitarist – hope to work with him again soon!”

So do I honey, so do I. Below is a link to “Leave No Trace”
