“Cofresi and Freinds” Review
Seeing a drummer front and center on stage is a pretty uncommon sight, none the less headlining a show with just himself, his drum set and some trippy visuals. There was no lack of support as fans filled up the Chop Shop in Chicago on December 2 to see Chicago local, Cofresi. The “Cofresi and Friends” show featured support from Maddy O’Neal, JuBee, Blue Future and Sky Society.
Starting off the evening with his positive message through music was Sky Society followed by Jubee. Next, fans enjoyed an upbeat set by other Chicago native, Blue Future. The electro hip-hop artist brought a dirty twist to the evening. He commanded the dance floor and left the audience wanting more.
Maddy O’Neal’s energy on stage was contagious. There was not a single moment of doubt that she loves what she does. In February of 2016, O’Neal began her venture as a solo artist when she split from duo project, Krooked Drivers. In that time, the Denver artist has released two albums, a plethora of remixes, and has done extensive touring. Swaping hometown for hometown, O’Neal and Cofresi followed this performance with a show in Denver on December 15. Fans can look forward to catching her in Vancouver, again in Colorado, Indianna, Arizona and at Electric Forest during the first weekend.
2017 was a big year for Cofresi. Not only was he signed to Maddison House but, “Cofresi and Friends” was his first hometown headlining show. He delivered a lengthy set with a solid combination of originals and remixes. He wrapped up the set with songs from his unreleased EP and brought out guests whom he had been working with. Guests included vocalist Cathos, Marcus Anthony Johnson of the Gorillaz and Manic Focus. The release date of Cofresi’s EP is still unknown.
Fans can look forward to catching him next in Milwaukee on December 31 and then on tour with Autograf. Here are some more photos from “Cofresi and Friends” by John McCormick.
