Flow Fest Feature: Cosmic Serenity
What is peanut butter without bananas or Ying without Yang? The moon in breathtakingly beautiful but, even more so when accompanied by stars. What about Bert and Ernie or brothers, Collin Egan-Wyer and Trill LeBeau? While each exist independently — the combination of the two is an entity of its own.
Together, Collin and Trill create Cosmic Serenity. The musical duo is fairly nomadic with roots in Minnesota, Colorado, the Upper Peninsula and the Big Island of Hawai’i. Collin takes the stage with his calm manner and Congo drums while Trill entertains with his vocals and acoustic guitar. Their transcendental jam sound is a genera of it’s own.
“You can’t think about it that hard,” said Collin.
The music of Cosmic Serenity comes from a deep place, which is why it might be difficult to peg in a genera. They give a lot of credit to their ancestors whom they commonly call on and feel around them when they perform and write. Their music also comes from a place of understanding, support and from each other.
“The formation was divine intervention,” said Collin. “I was in need of family and direction and he [Trill] was on his journey and had direction. His family took me under their wing and helped me become who I wanted to be. I never wanted to lose that. He’s my brother.”
“We’re brothers, we’re each others influence, ” said Trill.
It was the 2nd Annual Flow Festival in 2016 that brought the guys to the Island and never let a piece of them leave. The duo’s has been growing alongside the event since. This is now their third consecutive year on the line up and the duo’s first year with a full band. This year, Cosmic Serenity will be gracing the main stage Friday night with New Reb at 6:30 p. m.
“Flow Festival is a catalyst. It brought us home,” said Collin.
The band starting picking up momentum in 2013 after they got picked up by JoJo of Wookiefoot following their performance at Arise Festival in Loveland, Colorado. A huge activation for the guys was getting their “New Leaf EP” up on Spotify. But, even with the bands milestones made over the previous year, their standout moment of 2017 was their Minneapolis show where they opened for Wookiefoot. Not only was it a dream come true to open up for the band but, Collin proposed to his now fiance, during the band’s original track, “Rise In Love.”
“That was the top of the world, seeing my younger brother propose to his queen,” said Trill.
With a lot of love and support, they are now looking forward to releasing their first, full length, live album in a few months. If you’re interested in catching Cosmic Serenity at Flow Festival, be sure to purchase your tickets here. The event happens February 2, 3 and 4 in Pahoa on the Big Island.
