Snowta brought the funk, groove, bass and lights

Good morning Snowta fam. How you guys feeling today? I’m sitting in my onesie eating pizza and watching Black Mirror. Last night definitely did not disappoint.

My ears are still ringing and I’m seeing spots from Pretty Lights’ insane production system. Those lights are so pretty.

From the moment you walk in, you see a smile on everybody’s face and a skip in their step. There are ravers of every kind, some dressed in Grassroots hats and pashminas and some rockin’ the vintage 90s rave style with Tripp pants and platform shoes.

But the whole entire bottom floor of the Minneapolis Convention Center is packed with festival vibes. It’s like we were at a summer festival, except we get to go back to a comfy bed afterwards. People are selling pins, trading candy, buying merch and watching live painters create masterpieces. Vendors are selling crystals, scarves, Grassroots is there selling hats and Hideaway, a Snowta sponsor, has a booth with any smoke shop supplies you may need.

Megan Hamilton kicked off the two-day event with her partners in funk, The Bermudas at the Snowta mainstage. Beak Nasty followed up with their funky hip-hop twist. Mike Rat threw down the first set of the night at the Gray Duck Stage. Next was Yheti, and he melted everyone’s faces off with his space-bass. Ott continued the night with his groovy, trippy, psychedelic, dubby-type reggae ragers and Liquid Stranger ended the melty marathon. Bear Grillz came in and the vibe did a complete 180 and the head-banging commenced. At the end of the night, the railing was definitely not in the same place that it was at the start.

Back over the the Snowta Stage, Pretty Lights concludes night one with a light show that made the hair stand up on your arms. Pillars of lights crisscross the stage and form any pattern you can think of horizontally, vertically and diagonally. It was so impressive and colorful.

Night one was a party, Night two will be an experience. Follow our live streams tonight — We’ll be at Post Malone (BTW he’s doing three shows in one night … like what?), Prof, SoDown, Mija, Jon Wayne and the Pain, Wookiefoot, Ganja White Night, Excision and Sunsquabi.

Happy New Year everybody! We hope that 2018 brings lots of love and light into your lives — and of course, more raves.
