November 3- The Last Revel

OG This Is Perfect Harmony fam got to enjoy an evening sipping brews with The Last Revel at Mankato Brewery on Friday, November 3. This talented trio’s unique fusion of folk, bluegrass, and rock is the perfect blend creating soulful sound for an intimate setting.

November 4- Spencer Brown

Spencer Brown guarantees an unmissable exploration of beats to Union rooftop at the start of this month. Think innovative and dynamic as this set anticipates a night brimming with infectious vitality and ceaseless dancing. If you haven’t heard of Spencer Brown, catch him with tracks featuring melodic and progressive house favorites Ben Bohmer, Luttrell, and Ilan Bluestone.

November 4- Twin Cities Record Show

Not a concert, but an event to check out for the vinyl collectors! The Twin Cities Record Show happened to fall on the first Saturday of the month from 12-4 p.m. It’s your chance to explore a treasure trove of music memorabilia. Best of all, admission to this music lover’s paradise is absolutely free. Shoutout to Minneapolis Cider Co. and The Haralson Room for a day spent crate-digging, nostalgia, and discovering your next favorite album!

November 10- Low & High 5 Year Anniversary

Get ready for the standing ovations as we celebrate the 5th anniversary of Low & High in style on Friday, November 10! This sensational event boasts a stellar lineup featuring headliners Bleep Bloop, Thelem, cntrlla, and ObeyGrey. Beyond the music, immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere with Clown Glass vending and live painters Taylor Nelson and Art of Yolk! November 10- Mechanix

It’s the second Friday of the month so you know what that means! The November release of Mechanix consists of Modest, Greensky, Fervor, and Cosmic Bitch. All powered by Champion Sound on the Void Rigs, this show delivers a gnarly evening of drum and bass and jungle.

November 11- The Motet

Check out The Motet’s highly anticipated performance at Amsterdam Bar in St. Paul on Saturday, November 11. Renowned for their infectious blend of funk, soul, and jam, The Motet promises an eclectic night of sound. Adding to the excitement, the talented Yam Yam will be opening the show, setting the stage for an evening filled with groovy energy. November 11- Cosmic Synergy & Unified Theory Collective Presents: MERGE

Kuddos to the Twin Cities’ newest edition of sound system culture! MERGE is a monthly music and art show benefiting Unified Theory Collective, a indigenous owned company in the heart of Minneapolis enabling creativity to combat social crisis. The evening will consists of music from Katalyst, Snake Blood, Dumpling,  DeadMusik, Pharasoa, Renno, and Dubski Lx. This community based event is an alcohol free zone with all proceeds going directly to Unified Theory Collective.

November 15- Boombox

Boombox gives Fine Line a hump day treat by the middle of the month. Known for their signature blend of rock, electronic, and soul, Boombox delivers quite the unforgettable live performance. November 17/18- Ternion Sound x The Widdler Present: ‘Found Spaces’

Ternion Sound and The Widdler will conclude their highly-anticipated US tour with a dynamic two-night performance in Minneapolis. The event will insist an electrifying showcase of dubstep and bass music, featuring an insane bill including Introspekt, Jen Symmetry, Neuromancer, Visages, Medicine Place, and Bee Skee. These artists will bring their unique flavor and epic proportions to The Pourhouse for a two-night hometown run.

November 18- Dirtwire / Josh Teed

Ooooh this is an S.O.S! Pop sensations, The Jonas Brothers, take over St. Paul’s Xcel Energy on Saturday November 19. Your inner child is screaming it wants to take a trip to the Year 3000 to figure out if anything’s changed or if people actually live underwater!

November 24- Anklepants

Minneapolis is about to get real weird as the artistic guru Anklepants hits The Pourhouse. Joining this unique act are the talented opening acts Betafuse, Xavier Leblanc, and Toffler, creating a lineup that caters to cutting-edge experimental music taste and performance art.

November 25- Megan Hamilton

Feeling a night out spent getting down on the dance floor? Join another hometown hero Saturday, November 25 at Fine Line. Megan Hamilton and The Sponges, with the dynamic opening act Mntra, will throw quite the house music spectacle! July 28-30th – The Great Beyond

Hosted by Intellephunk and Enemy Records, The Great Beyond takes festival goers through a global psychedelic techno portal. Located at the Minnesota River Valley Sanctuary and Retreat center, this sought after curated lineup showcases world-class techno artists and production who push the boundaries of sound system culture. The Great Beyond consists of three curated stages, each with its own unique ambiance and production. Get lost under the trees and lasers for a weekend full of unforgettable techno odyssey and camp out hangs.

July 28th – Shakey Graves

Witness the raw talent and inventive storytelling of Shakey Graves, an Americana singer-songwriter. With their haunting vocals and masterful guitar skills, Shakey Graves has become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. July 29 – The Floozies, Marvel Years, + many more!

“The album is a reflection of multiple things myself and the band went through over the past few years, ” shared Jonah Bowe. “The recording process was a lot of fun and really gave us a chance to experiment and grow as people and musicians.”

Jonah Bowe is the lead vocalist and guitarist of Rootz Within. He performs alongside Tyler Renney, Scott Thompson, Anita Cargiuolo, and Ryan Engberg.

Incrementum was released on June 30 and features 13 new tracks. The album leans into the band’s rock elements more than previous releases, but still showcases Rootz Within’s recognizable reggae sound.

The band posted on Facebook that the album title, “incrementum,” is Latin for growth. They felt that it encompassed the band’s collective experience since its last release in 2018, Aloha Aina.

“We spent a lot of time on it and it means a lot to us. We just hope people enjoy it and it gives them a deeper look into life and the different things we all go through,” said Jonah Bowe. 

Fans can catch Rootz Within at various shows over the next month. Their hometown album release party will take place in Detroit Lakes, MN on August 20 at Detroit Mountain Recreation Area. The show is free and open to all ages!

Highly anticipated by all is their third appearance at the space-themed event, Galactic Get-Down Music Festival, in New Richmond, WI! 

Galactic Get-Down is scheduled to take place on August 27, 28 and 29 at River’s Edge Campground. The 6th annual festival is co-hosted by Space Monkey Mafia and Dead Larry. Rootz Within will walk on the Moon Stage on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

“Sometimes I have these nights where I’m just on another planet entirely, feeling creatively untouchable,” said chromonicci. “So here I am at 3 a.m., working on my second song of the night, fresh off my second dose of the pfizzy, and out of nowhere I started making this crazy ‘80s beat.”

Known by family and friends as Christian Crenshaw, chromonicci. grew up singing ‘80s styled r&b, and ‘90s gospel and soul. The ‘80s inspired beat of “Magnetic” perfectly showcases chromonicci.’s vocal upbringing. It was truly only a matter of time before he intertwined his hidden talent with his reputable production skills.

Straight out of Pittsburgh, his hip-hop influence shines heavily through his ambient beats. “The concept for my project was started in my bedroom with a pair of headphones, a laptop, and the internet to build my sample database,” says Headphone Activist. The moniker, Headphone Activist, came from a lyric from a song by the Rhymesayers Records duo; Atmosphere. Being a fan of the hip-hop duo, he resonated with the phrase and adopted the persona — birthing Headphone Activist.

At the end of 2020, Headphone Activist released an incredibly crunchy yet heartfelt, nostalgic, hour-long mix with Sskwan which was just the start of the journey (listen here). Having played at music festivals such as; Ascension (2015), Enchanted Forest (2015), and Get Freaky (2019) he’s been grinding for some time now and it shows. 

“Audio Oasis” debuting on Sskwan only makes perfect sense and we can not wait to see what the future holds for Headphone Activist. For now kick back, turn the lights low and groove through the “Audio Oasis”.

The creative entity that is Nu Strut is brought to us by Brent Pinero. Growing up in Dallas, Texas, music has been a large part of Brent’s life. Taking part in a multitude of bands, including forming his very own blues trio 14 years ago. In 2016, Nu Strut began experimenting with electronic music, blending genres like his inspirations before him. Taking notes from some of his favorites like Grammatik, Koan Sound and LSDREAM, he continues to produce those Neo soul, Funkified, hip-hop suede type beats. 

Last August, Electrik Hawk hosted one of their infamously THICK Harmony Virtual Music Festivals, which Nu Strut had the pleasure of closing out, right after the Koan Sound boys(listen here). In the same month of August, Nu Strut also released his foxy funkified remix of “Funk ain’t even” by mad scientist Au5 and Nasty Purple. Highly recommended bop.

“Pornstashe ass out lookin’ like a plumber.” Wise words from the one and only baddie Wreckno. Attitude fills the dancefloor whenever Wreckno hits the speakers, it’s a fact. This banger hits like “Medusa” with Griz, and “Moon Sigil” have put this queen on the forefront of the party bass scene. It’s a beautiful sight to see all the positive reactions and support from the community supporting his project, making a safe space for all of LBGTQ+ involved. The future is bright and sassy and we are here for it. 

Needless to say, “Pornstache” is the refreshing bop we needed in order to get our twerk game right. Pull up those fishnets and bathe in sustainable glitter for this one.

Denver resident, Hullabalo0, kicks off the compilation with a silky smooth tune, “Forget It” to set the mood. A pleasant surprise from Minneapolis resident Conduit who blesses us with his first released track in three years, “Oneiric Ingress,” and we couldn’t be happier to be apart of the journey. “Tsaheylu” brings a strong feeling of connection with a touching sample weaved in-between melodic waves — bless you Dead Kel.

Wub after wub, this lullaby gives you a sense of comfort. Vibes brought to you from newer up n’ comers like Subocybin(who blessed us with our podcast intro), Cephalo, Pathfynder, and Whaley; to some more familiar names such as Dopel, Relativity Lounge, and Homemade Spaceship. Louisiana native Savej, (pronounced savage) having learned this, applied this knowledge to his latest EP “Solstice” out today on Gravitas Records. So when his six track EP makes you feel some type of way remember, Savej finely tuned each track to evoke feelings of bliss.

More specifically, every flute you hear is tuned to 432 Hz. Every track that is tuned to 432 Hz you will notice is also 4:32 minutes long. He does this because this tuning system is believed to be in resonance with time and the earth’s rotation. As a student of the universe, Savej is curious and inspired by the mysterious forces of nature. You’ll quickly notice the tribal atmosphere along with subtle sounds of nature, taking you to some serene soundscape far far away.

Not only did Savej finely tune his instruments, he also finely tuned his very own vocal cords. Being intrigued with the art of Kargyraa style of throat singing for years, Savej decided to dedicate himself to learning exactly how to manipulate his vocal cords to create a pitch impression of one octave below the modal voice by vibrating the ventricular folds or aryepiglottic folds alongside the vocal cords. In other words, it makes your voice go brrrrr.

If you listen closely you can distinctly hear Savej using the Kargyraa style of singing during his title track “Solstice.” Influenced by the sounds of hip hop, Savej intertwines worldly instruments with a shamanic touch to produce a sound of hard hitting bass with melodic harmonies. Imagine if Blackmill and Clozee had a musical child if you will, Savej is sure to make some noise.

The Liquid Bloom project, produced by Amani Friend, was cultivated on the side and often accompanied by his friend Poranguí, the one-man looping orchestra. This musical experience is more than your average downtempo, feel-good vibes —  it’s an exploration of the soul.

 “Indigenous rhythms from around the world to move the body and lift the spirit” as said on the artists website.  Poranguí is a Brazilian native and a U.S. based artist with an extensive resumé in worldly sounds. Today, you lay witness to “Breath Re-imagined Vol.2”. A perfectly blended concoction of  tribal house, downtempo electronica.  Eleven remixes from the likes of Raposa, , Bosa , The Invisible People (An-ten-nae) and Luca Bacchetti are just a fraction of the talent on this project. Coss and Lorie begin the album with their black sand mix of “Closed Eyes In A Dust Storm.”  The track gives us insight on where this trip will be taking us. With prominent yet smooth synths layered on top of thick kick drums you can’t ignore.

As the Odyssey continues, you gain a sense of mystical wonder at play. By the fourth track, the pace begins to pick up with Unders remix of,  “One That Shows The Way.” The subtle high hats really add that extra little flavor on top of a Tron like synth. Track after track, weaved together perfectly into one cohesive breath of life. When you get to “Dreams Within A Dream” remixed by Derun, you are lost in a trance of melodic vocals and dreamy string instruments. This project shows exactly how to blend multicultural sounds in such a musical experience to where it’s just that, an experience. By the end of the album you are lost in the deep grooves of the desert where the love dwells.

Make sure to give the project a proper opportunity as a whole, at least once. Light a candle, set the mood, take a deep breath and get lost in sound. “Breath Re-imagined Vol.2”  is released through Sofa Beats and is now available on Bandcamp and Spotify!

Cristina Soto has collaborated with producers such as Psymbionic, Of The Trees, Au5, Illenium and Said The Sky. In 2015, her feature with Psymbionic and Of The Trees, “One Thing,” was remixed by Bassnectar. The remix caused her to gain a lot of attention.

Her acoustic take on “Still With Me” feels like an evening cruise into the sunset with her warm voice over smooth guitar chords. The tune picks up the pace a quarter of the way through. It’s just enough to get listeners excited and hopping side to side. The violin is really the icing on this feel-good, melodic cake — not too much and not too little, just right.  It’s the perfect tune to cruise and reflect to.

The intro track, “Lippy,” prepares you for the ride with a smooth delivery. It quickly turns into an organic cyborg dance party incorporated with hip hop female vocals. There’s no chance of sitting still while trying to rap along and venture through this glitch hop bop. The tracks give listeners a look into Chamberlain’s hip hop influences. 

Chamberlain explains, “I am a big fan of hip hop, especially the Boom Bap and G-funk era. I would say the hip hop groove has definitely inspired a lot of my tracks to date and I often use hip-hop acapella in my live sets.” 

His second track, “Jungle Whispers,” offers a tribal atmosphere with its organic drums and crispy claps. The use of strings and vocals over the bass stabs gives it an authentic energy you can’t ignore. 

As “Dust” settles you feel the four-on-the-floor bass. With distorted horns and prominent synth stabs the track is sure to get the dance floor active. 

“Jellyfish” offers a more serene feeling as you start to slow down and take in the view. The airy sounds of wind instruments, accompanying thick bass lines and space ship like sounds take you away. 

Chamberlain invites fellow Melbourne native, Projekt CC, for “Story under Stars.” A glitch house club track with mesmerizing vocals and crashing cymbals. It offers a feeling of running through the jungle with the birds keeping you company.

“Ancient Technology” finishes strong with a remix of “Dust” by legendary duo, Zebbler Encanti Experience. The remix premiered on Space Jesus’ very first “Moon Dot Records Mix 0.0” in January. The high energy synth patterns on top of the four-beat kick are sure to get even grandma out of her seat to groove. Halfway through, the mood shifts down a gear as an opportunity to catch your breath and sway with the wind. The end of the track delivers a hefty elongated bass growl sure to scrunch up faces and kick up some “Dust.”

Here’s how it went down:

With the bus in Chicago, the top priority was to make sure all the blinkers, brake lights and headlights worked. I had tried to change the light bulbs, nothing. A friend of mine who knew how to read a manual and a much better understanding of electricity came to the rescue. After a few hours of determining what it wasn’t, it turned out to be an easy fix — almost too easy. Though the entirety of my dash does not work, all blinkers and brake lights do!

Here’s what was wrong with my lights: 

If I would have been told at the beginning of all this, that the pandemic would be pushing me to live my truth, with my bus, I wouldn’t have believed you. With much consideration, careful planning and precaution, I made the decision to follow through with my move out of Chicago, but not with the same intention to move to Minneapolis.

Here’s my goodbye to Chicago:

Over the next week, I will be working with my friends Taylor and Cheyne of @radicalregenerationbustour to build composting toilets for both our skoolies, install plumbing, install some frames and a bed before I depart on the next leg of my journey, which is still undetermined.
